Do not drink water from the taps. Water is cheap and easily available in sealed bottles. Usually your hotel will provide you with two bottles for free – check it’s not the expensive imported water though.

Renting a car is a good alternative to get around Bali, either self-driving, or with a driver so you can relax and enjoy the view. Tip the driver some pocket money for meals if you stop for lunch or dinner. If you are pleased with his service, tip (Rp.20.000 minimum) at the end.
When self-driving, ensure that you have a valid Tourist, Indonesian or International Driving License. Test-drive the car before you pay anything in advance and take insurance coverage for vehicle damages.

Metered taxis are available throughout all tourist areas in Bali. When you commence your journey make sure the meter is on. Taxis such as these are best for short and medium length journeys of up to 30 minutes. We recommend blue (Blue Bird Company), green or orange taxis.
